Pisa Sporting Club is looking for a new coach after being relegated to Serie B. The Danish coach Oscar Hiljemark has a contract until 2027, but his adventure started in February is considered over after the relegation from Serie A concluded with nine consecutive losses (negative record in the 117 years of the club's history). The new sports director Leonardo Gabbanini and the administrator delegate Giovanni Corrado are looking for a coach who can win immediately in Serie B. Paolo Zanetti is the hottest candidate, as the talks between the coach and the Tuscan management have intensified in the last few hours after a first brief survey in the past weeks. Zanetti has already coached the Venezia and won the promotion to Serie A in 2021. Fabio Pecchia is another strong candidate, also for his experience abroad as Benitez's assistant at Real Madrid and Newcastle United. Pecchia has already coached Cremonese and Parma and won the promotion to Serie A in 2022 and 2025. The first criterion of Pisa is a coach who knows how to win in Serie B, whether it's at the end of the regular season or through the playoffs is indifferent. And it's this that unites the two coaches, both protagonists of promotions in Serie A in recent years. Another point in common is the desire to get back into Serie B after the recent disappointments in Serie A, Zanetti after being fired from Verona when he was just four points away from the salvation zone (he ended up 17 points behind), Pecchia - also sounded by Modena and Watford - after a year of sabbatical following the intense experience of Parma. Marco Baroni is also in the background, but this week or at the latest in the first days of next month, the Pisa patron Alexander Knaster will say the final word on who to entrust the bench to launch the new project after the fall from that Serie A that was conquered after 34 years. The choice of the new coach will also affect the construction of the team. The impression is that, compared to recent seasons, the coach's advice will have more weight on the market, otherwise they would not have pointed to profiles who know well men and pitfalls of Serie B. There is a lot to do, but the coach who will arrive will not start from scratch, as he will be able to start from the defense. Captain Caracciolo has declared that he wants to end his career at Pisa, with him will remain another pillar of the locker room, Calabresi, and, if there are no clamorous offers, also Canestrelli, plus Lusuardi (return from loan from Reggiana) and probably Bozhinov. The uncertainties are represented by the outsiders Angori and Touré, who are liked in Serie A, while the midfielder Aebischer - who will play the World Cup with Switzerland and may have a good market - will have to decide his future. Also to be deciphered is the fate of the players arrived in the last winter market. Among these, first of all, the most expensive purchase in the club's history, the Nigerian national striker Durosinmi (over 9 million euros).
