Pisa Sporting Club Sporting Club is indirectly involved in the referee scandal currently shaking Serie A, with new investigations focusing on alleged VAR protocol violations. The Arena Garibaldi in Pisa Sporting Club was the scene of a key incident on March 2, 2026, during the match between Pisa Sporting Club SC and Bologna FC 1909, where a VAR monitor became the focus of investigators.

According to Italian sources, including Gazzetta dello Sport, the investigation has expanded to include three new referees: Luigi Nasca, Rodolfo Di Vuolo, and Daniele Paterna. These individuals join Referee Designator Gianluca Rocchi and VAR supervisor Andrea Gervasoni, who were already under investigation for the matter.

The three newly implicated referees are suspected of providing false information to the prosecutor. Specifically, Daniele Paterna appeared in a video that seemed to show a person outside the VAR room giving suggestions to officials on what to tell the on-field referee, in clear violation of protocol.

Investigators believe that VAR officials were influenced by individuals outside the control room, even through coded messages, thereby undermining their independence of judgment and the integrity of refereeing decisions in Serie A.

Gianluca Rocchi, the Referee Designator, has stated he is 'deeply troubled' by the developments. The situation is considered serious, and Italian authorities are continuing their inquiries. The number of people involved in this scandal could grow 'significantly' in the coming hours, as suggested by the latest reports.
